ROAD BRIDGE
BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
DPW PROJECT NO.:BR-47-016 /INDOT PROJECT NO.:STP-B409
The McFarland Road bridge replacement over Little Buck Creek
involved the replacement of the existing bridge structure
on McFarland Road, 0.14 km (0.08 mi.) north of Southport
Road. The total project length was 220 m (722 ft.)
The
new bridge, a three span (9.75 m, 12.2 m, 9.75 m) continuous
reinforced concrete slab bridge with integral end bents,
was constructed on the same horizontal tangent alignment
as the demolished structure and on a vertical alignment
approximately 0.6 m (2 ft.) higher than the pre-existing
gradient. The new bridge is on a 0 degree skew and has 9.0
m (30 ft.) clear roadway width. The project also included
the reconstruction of the approaches incorporating two 3.3
m (11 ft.) lanes and 1.22 m (4 ft.) shoulders. Due to site
constrictions, a 4-Bay Quadguard System and 1.2 m chain
link fence were constructed at the northwest end of the
new bridge structure.
